The president presides over the weekly meetings, assigns bills to each of the 15 committees and decides which aldermen will sit on those committees. Aside from leading the Board of Aldermen, the president also sits on a variety of boards and commissions within city government. The most notable of these is the three-member Board of Estimate and Apportionment.
